Ana and Roberto at Pelayo's Farm

I recently got to photograph Ana and Roberto's small family wedding at the charming Pelayo's farm in Roy, and since the wedding was all outside and we did have some weather, thought I'd share some how-to's for how to best have a successful country wedding. Congrats, Ana and Roberto, I loved being a part of your family for the day.

How to Prepare for a Country Wedding

1. Choose the Right Venue

Look for a picturesque location that embodies the charm of the countryside. Consider barns, farms, or outdoor venues with stunning natural backdrops.

2. Embrace Nature

Utilize the natural surroundings to enhance your decor. Leave the venue as untouched as possible and incorporate elements like wildflowers, hay bales, or rustic wooden accents.

3. Plan for the Weather

Since country weddings are often outdoors, prepare for unexpected weather changes. Consider renting a tent or having a backup indoor location just in case.

4. Choose Comfortable Attire

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for the terrain. Consider lighter fabrics and styles that keep you cool and relaxed throughout the day.

5. Cater to Your Guests

Think about your guests’ comfort. Provide amenities like sunscreen, blankets for evening chill, and, if needed, shuttle services from remote parking areas.

6. Incorporate Local Cuisine

Highlight the local culture by choosing a menu that features regional dishes. Farm-to-table options are a great choice to complement the rural setting.

7. Choose Rustic Decor

Opt for rustic, vintage pieces such as mason jars, burlap table runners, and wooden signs to create a charming country atmosphere.

8. Plan Transportation

If your venue is remote, arrange for transportation for guests. Consider shuttle buses or carpools to minimize the need for parking space.

9. Have Fun with Entertainment

Think about incorporating local entertainment options such as folk musicians, lawn games, or even a bonfire to create a festive atmosphere.

10. Capture the Moments

Hire a photographer who is experienced in outdoor weddings to ensure they capture the beauty of your setting and the joy of your special day.

Conclusion

By keeping these tips in mind, you can create a memorable country wedding experience that you and your guests will cherish.
