Adina's incredible Taylor Swift themed Mitzvah at the W Hotel Bellevue and Temple Herzl-Ner Tamid

I’m going to show my age here and say that Talia's Bellevue WA W Hotel Bat Mitzvah celebration was absolutely off the hook!

Her amazing mom, Kelly, used to orchestrate large events back in the day on the East Coast. That expertise completely shined through in this "big concert meets New Year's Eve" blowout, which she planned alongside Janel Ellefsen from Occasions, LLC.

The Pihas are members of the Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation on Mercer Island. Because photos are not permitted on the day of the ceremony, we took portraits there earlier in the week during their rehearsal. That left Saturday wide open for me to focus entirely on the massive celebration, which was filled with over 200 family members and friends from all over the world.

As a Seattle Mitzvah photographer, my client relationships really start to form during a 30-minute pre-session I like to do with the celebrant. These are personality portraits based on who they are, their passions, and what kind of location fits their vibe. I knew this Mercer Island Bat Mitzvah photography experience was going to be special right from the start, when Kelly asked if I could take pictures of Talia in the style of different Taylor Swift album covers.

I was thrilled with this creative endeavor! It eventually grew into us recreating every single one of Taylor's album covers to create a "grand entrance" poster for this Taylor Swift themed Bat Mitzvah. It hung right on the ballroom doors, serving as the first hint of what was in store for the guests.

After an intimate cocktail hour, the doors to the grand ballroom swung open. As the guests entered, a spotlight hit Talia. She confidently strode out from behind the presentation curtains, singing and rapping Taylor Swift songs on a light-up stage.

That high-energy entrance set the tone for a party that never stopped. The dancers and MC from Portland-based Higher Ground kept the party vibes moving until late into the night.
